Caernarfon Under 16’s were taught a painful lesson in the art of the rolling maul last Sunday, as a well drilled Mold pack walked their way to victory.

Within the first 5 minutes a Mold scrum on the Cofi 5m line, with a break to the blind side, led to a converted try.

Five minutes later Mold and North Wales stand-off Lewis Barker ghosted his way through the visiting defence to score under the posts. Another converted try saw the home side go 21-0 ahead before Caernarfon and North Wales tighthead prop Rhodri Evans crossed for the only Cofi points to make the halftime score 21-5.

The second half continued in much the same vein – with Mold scoring within the first two minutes. Whilst Caernarfon matched the home side in the set scrum and the loose, Mold were in total control of every lineout. And when Mold got their rolling maul working, the technique, discipline and communication was too much for the young Cofis. Three more Mold tries were to follow leaving the visitors to contemplate their short comings on the long trip back along the A55.
