First Team
63 - 6
Bae Colwyn

Caernarfon started the new seasons campaign with an 11 try route of an under par Colwyn Bay. Both sides had plenty of new faces, but it was the youngsters from Caernarfon who shone through, once again displaying the excellent work that goes on with Junior and Youth rugby at the club in producing talent. The hosts took little time to get the scoreboard running when back row John Llewellyn went over for the first try on six minutes. With Kelvin Morris adding the extras, it was a dream start for the Cofi’s.

Then came a quiet period as both sides took their time to get used to the new season. Just short of the half hour Colwyn Bay got the scoreboard moving with a penalty from full back Sion Mcdonna. Any thoughts of Colwyn Bay getting back into the game were dashed when the Cofi’s hit a purple patch adding 29 points in twelve minutes. First to cross was second row Chris Wynn who was on hand to capitalise on a tantalising Kelvin Morris run. Next on the scoresheet was wing Iolo Hughes. Caernarfon pinched the Colwyn bay lineout and the ball was shipped out wide for the winger to race in for an excellent finish. Before have in chance to take breath the scoring continued. This time it was Hughes who played the role of provider, putting in hooker Liam Leung for the score. There was no rest for the Bay as within two minutes it was centre Gwil Hendy who got on the scoresheet with a swanlike dive under the posts, with Morris adding the extras. Just before the break it was No.8 Rhys Evans who crossed the line with a tired Colwyn bay defence looking on in desperation. With the conversion added the Cofi’s went into the break with a healthy 36-3 lead. The second half started much like the first finished with both Liam Leung and wing Dylan Gwyn crossing for further scores.

Then came a little lull in play with Colwyn Bay getting another penalty through Mcdonna. The scoreboard remained redundant for large periods of the game until the last six minutes when the Cofi’s finished with a flurry with Barry Jones, Liam Leung, who crossed for his hat trick and Captain Trystsn Gwilym crossing for tries
