With their two RGC1404 players back in the squad, Caernarfon were always favourites to win this game. But it took over twenty minutes for the Cofi forwards to get  prop Gareth Pritchard into a position where he could cross the line to open the scoring.

However after four substitutions and one positional change at half time Caernarfon started to make their physical superiority count. Only 4 minutes into the second half, and after some determined forward play, prop Rhodri Evans crossed to double the home team score. It took only another six minutes before lock Rhys Hughes Jones crossed to put the Cofis 15-0 ahead.

In what had been a forward dominated game, the Caernarfon backs got their chance to shine in the 18th minute of the second half. Full back Tomos Jones picked up a loose ball on his own 5 metre line and ran the length of the pitch, breaking through two tackles in the process, to score under the Dolgellau posts. Jac Evans added the extra’s to make the game 22-0.

Whilst Dolgellau had been very competitive and made life difficult for the Cofi’s in the first half, their lack of fresh legs, and their increasingly indisciplined play meant the home side worked their way down field relatively easily.

A penalty on the Dolgellau 5m line was taken by scrum half Dewi Nicolson, dummying right he drew the defence, whilst his pass to the left gave Aaron Gwyn the space to make it to the line, and a delicate pop pass gave Cai Allsup the opportunity to cross for the Cofis fifth and final try.

At 27-0 a relatively easy win for Caernarfon, but the coaches won’t be happy with the amount of spilt ball, and chances gone begging. With a more clinical approach and a little more passion the score could easily have been closer to the half century.
